Over at Imperial College’s Data Science Institute, a giant digital ‘observatory’ has appeared.
It comprises 64 screens, 313 degrees of surround vision and its power comes from no fewer than 32 computers. The funding is part of KPMG’s long-term investment in the Institute.
The purpose behind all the tech is to facilitate an understanding of data sets that would ordinarily be too large to comprehend. Potential uses include the tracking of money laundering, climate change, the solar system and live hack attacks; research into healthcare and smart cities; and businesses working on improving their product and getting one over on the competition (businesses, eh!).
